Heel Pain In Children

Heel pain in children is different from adult heel pain. In children especially 10-13 year olds heel pain can be a sign of Severs Disease (calcaneal apophysitis). Severs Disease is not actually a disease but it is related to bio-mechanical problems and overactivity. Often the calf muscles are very tight and pull at the heel bone which disrupts the growth plate in the heel. The heel bone is not fully fused until a child is about 13 years of age.

Severs Disease is not a problem to be ignored or for home treatment. Our podiatrists are skilled to treat this condition and early intervention is very important.
